THE M61 has been closed after a crash involving a car and a motorcyclist.

The rider has been taken to Salford Roya Hospital by air ambulance with what are thought to be serious injuries.

The accident happened just after 5pm, between junctions five and six of the M61 northbound.

The air ambulance landed on the motorway at 5.45pm.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays while emergency services deal with the incident.

I was stuck in the queue about 500 yards from the accident.

What was more shocking is the amount of stupid drivers who thought we were all at a stand still for a laugh and decided to drive down the hard shoulder only to then realise that too was closed by the HA. So not only did we have three lanes of standstill traffic but a blocked hard shoulder with idiots in it! It's a good job the emergency services had already got to the scene!
