ONE of the world’s most popular operas is coming to Blackburn Cathedral in a special semi-staged summer gala concert.

On Saturday the cathedral choirs join together with five soloists to perform Mascagni’s ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’.

The opera – one of the most well-loved in the repertoire – is known for its uplifting ‘Easter Hymn’.

It is set in a Sicilian village on Easter Day, when a story of love, betrayal, and anguish unfolds.

Cathedral director of music and conductor Samuel Hudson said: “The singers at Blackburn Cathedral, along with members of the Northern Chamber Orchestra and five opera soloists, are very much looking forward to the project.

“It is a significant departure from the format of the summer gala concert normally promoted at the cathedral.”

Tickets from £5, and are available at www.blackburncathedral.com or from the Box Office at King George’s Hall.
