Bolton radio host Victoria Derbyshire to leave BBC Radio 5 Live
BOLTON radio star Victoria Derbyshire is to leave BBC Radio 5 Live this autumn — and begin working on a new BBC News programme.
The 45-year-old, who currently hosts the networks mid-morning show is one of a number of presenters making way as part of the station’s major schedule shake-up.
Daytime Hosts Richard Bacon and Shelagh Fogarty will also be moving on, with the BBC stating that they have “each decided it’s the right time to move on.”
The new daytime line-up will be led by ITV sport anchorman Adrian Chiles and 5 Live presenter Peter Allen, who will host the new 5 Live Daily show.
BBC Sport presenter Dan Walker will also be brought in as a host of the new Afternoon Edition show.
The BBC confirmed that Derbyshire, who joined 5 Live as a breakfast presenter in 1998, will be working on a new BBC news programme, with details to be announced in the Autumn.
She said: “It's a huge wrench to leave 5 live where listeners and I have shared so many experiences, and I would like to thank them enormously for trusting me.
“As to what I'm doing next — well I've been offered a brilliant opportunity too good to turn down."
