More waste being re-used

First published in

South Ribble residents have recycled almost half of all their household waste during the past 12 months.

This is an increase on last year’s figure, as changes made to waste and recycling collections by South Ribble Borough Council continue to maximise recycling and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

The changes have resulted in a 15.6 per cent increase on recycling rates since 2006, when around only a third of the waste collected across the borough was recycled.

Changes have included the introduction of wheelie bins, weekly food waste collections and collecting waste and recycling on bank holidays.
