A DISABLED woman’s car was written off — meaning she cannot get to hospital for treatment on her spine — when a car ploughed into her garden wall.

Katie Twentyman was in the back room of her family home in Mytham Road, Little Lever, when a silver Volkswagen crashed into cars parked on the driveway at 3.30am on Sunday.

Miss Twentyman, aged 31, often needs to go to hospital for treatment on a cyst on her spine.

Concrete blocks and bricks were hurled through the front window and porch by the impact of the crash, in which her father Peter’s car was written off.

The two family cars were shunted into the house by the force of the crash.

The accident also cut off the family’s access to the internet and a phone line.

Mr Twentyman, aged 68, said: “I woke up and thought I’d heard a massive clap of thunder, a real bang.

“Then I thought, it’s meant to be such a nice day, and I looked out and saw the car on my drive.

“If someone had been walking on the street at that time they could have been killed.”

Miss Twentyman’s mum, Judith, aged 66, said: “If our cars hadn’t been there, I reckon the car would have come straight through the house and into the back room.

“It was still dark, we did not know what damage had been done.

“It was about nine o’clock when it sunk in. I got a headache and was sick — I suppose it was a bit of delayed shock.”

The couple were asleep in bed upstairs while Miss Twentyman had just returned from a party and was in the back room, downstairs.

The garden wall was completely demolished in the crash.

Police are trying to trace three young men, thought to be in their 20s, who were seen by Miss Twentyman running away from the car shortly after the incident.
