COULD this be Bolton’s most patriotic street?

Residents of Aldercroft Avenue in Breightmet have gone above and beyond to prove that they are the town’s most passionate England fans.

The street has been covered in St George’s flags, bunting and Three Lions banners, as residents come together to support the team in Brazil.

The decorating began a week ago when Paul Pritchard began to cover his house in England regalia — soon after the whole street began to follow suit.

Mr Pritchard said: “I started putting mine up about a week ago and I think others saw and joined in. I have seen people out until 10pm putting flags up.

“It is the World Cup and it only happens every four years. It’s a big thing and we are all coming together to show our support. It’s a good way of getting a bit of community spirit going, and all the kids in the street have been getting involved.”

Mr Pritchard said that photos of the decorations were put on social media sites which has resulted in people driving to see the impressive array of flags for themselves and take pictures.

He added: “We are going to be having a massive street party for the first game on Saturday — so no cars will be getting through.”

Another family that has gone all out in support of the England team is the Caddy household, with large flags covering their home.

Mum Sally Caddy said: “We have all made a lot of effort and it’s lovely to see everyone getting on board with a bit of team spirit — we all know each other on the street and will be watching the games together.

“I’m not sure how the team are going to do but I hope they get out of the group because we would like to keep the decorations up for more than a week.”

This wont be the only street decked out with loyal flags for the football.

All over Bolton it has happened.

Perhaps the BN or better still Bolton Council could organise a competition for the best decorated street with two final tickets and an all inclusive paid trip to Brazil. Now that would be front page news.

I think Carl gustaf should keep his comments to his self but just to clarify, most of the houses on this street are bought, and i don't know of one household that doesn't work. Yes we have community spirit, yes we are all proud to be British and we did the same for the jubilee. We work hard and enjoy the world cup and the oppotunity to come together to support our country. If u don't like it that's fine don't participate but there is no need to bad mouth others. And that's my daughter in purple on the front cover and ill have you know she is very clean and well looked after and we are not on benefits. Maybe....just maybe if you yourself had a wash and were more friendly you too could enjoy some team spirit and celebrate/support your country. Enjoy your weekend.x

You have the power to move them unless there is a TRO on the road and those are only issued for special reasons, I would love to film someone trying though as true colours would soon be shown.

i don't understand what all the fuss is about
a few flags a put up and the street enjoys the world cup whats wrong with that ??

it doesn't matter the street is in breightmet i'm sure there's more around bolton doing exactly the same thing i think it's a good thing when a whole street can waiver their differences once in a while even if takes something like the world cup for it to happen

the bad mouthing really is uncalled for but this is the internet i guarantee not one of the people who have left derogatory comments here would walk into aldercroft avenue and say the same thing

i don't live in breightmet and on my street there isn't a single flag but if thats what people want to do it's fine by me

I live on Aldercroft and no we are not all on benefits. We could afford to buy our own house in a 'better area' but with stuck up people in the 'better areas' nowadays I would rather be smack bang in the middle of Aldercroft where I at least know my neighbours name. We didn't join in the street party as we are 'cleaning our house' redecorating and before anyone can jump in and comment no its not with England flags lol. I think its absolutely ridiculous the nasty comments people have wrote. I wonder how many people who don't live on a council estate are being done for tax fraud?? I wonder how many of you are up to your eye balls in debt to live in a 'better area'. I also wonder how many of you are working so much your children never spend any time with you? All the children on this street are well looked after and cared for. The people who have wrote the nasty comments are quite sad and must lead a very boring life. The children had a great time last night and I hope we get a better result next game. Come on England

Well said sir/madam. I was brought up in the depths of tonge moor, my family had no money. Those years are the best of my life so far. I fortunately got a job at 16 and have worked ever since and now live very reasonably, own house, car. You make the best of what life puts in front of you. Im sure some of the posters on here must live in 8 bedroomed country mansions, having never put a foot wrong and worked since leaving school. IF ONLY. Your kids in years to come will say , remember that party we had for the world cup, the one were we covered our street in flags. Well done I say.
