GROUPS across Bury could benefit from £1,000 worth of electrical products in a drive to recycle responsibly.

Schools, community groups, not-for-profit organisations and registered charities stand to benefit from the recycling scheme.

REPIC is celebrating 10 years of operation and working in compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, which aims to recycle more electrical goods.

Groups can apply for an electrical item up to the value of £1,000, such as a microwave or laptop, by answering a simple question.

St Joseph’s Scout group in Ramsbottom has gained new torches and a microwave in the scheme.

Dr Philip Morton, chief executive of REPIC, said: “We’re proud to celebrate 10 years of successful WEEE recycling and we wanted to mark it with a worthwhile community initiative and hopefully encourage further responsible recycling of electricals.

"It’s great to launch in Bury and we’re looking forward to receiving the entries — whether the request is for something simple like a microwave — or whether it’s a higher value purchase such as washing machine.”

Glenn Stuart, head of waste management at Bury Council, said: “This is a great chance for schools and community groups to win electrical products that they really are in need of.”

Groups should explain what new electrical products they need and why, and answer the question “What does WEEE stand for?”

The closing date is June 27. For more information: visit responsible-recyc ling.co.uk
