Burnley alert over cold callers offering ‘tax cut’

This Is Lancashire: Burnley alert over cold callers offering ‘tax cut’ Burnley alert over cold callers offering ‘tax cut’

BURNLEY Council has warned residents to be vigilant after reports of a company offering to lower their council tax banding.

Over the past few days, the council has received a number of phone calls from council taxpayers who have been ‘cold called’ by a private company which claims to be able to save them money.

“People are under the misapprehension that this company is working on behalf of the council, or the Valuation Office,” said Caroline Lee, the council’s head of revenues and benefits.

“This isn’t the case.

“Taxpayers can appeal to the Valuation Office to have their council tax band reviewed and it doesn’t cost them a thing.

“From what we’ve been told, this company appears to be charging an up-front fee, followed by a success fee based on any saving achieved.

“We’ve also been told that representatives from the company are calling at people’s homes.”

The council’s advice to people is if you think your house is in the wrong council tax band you should contact the Valuation Office yourself.

Burnley’s valuation bands can be found on council tax bills.

Why did your local M.P. NOT
Bring this up in the house yesterday?
When he was there asking for help for the old in your
Town he should have brought this to the governments
Attention as well as asking for more money for
Your old people after all this scam will target the old
As for help with the old people saddlery there will be
NO help from this government they are clawing back
All the council money to found the 2015 election.
Your M.P. know this and can do something about it
But he will not why because he is all for the party?
ASK him IF HE WILL HOLD BACK PAYMENTS TO THE GOVERNMENT.
And use the money to help out your old people IN YOUR TOWN his answer will be NO?
WHY you ask because the government has spent all the money in the
Pot so they are going to start to change a lot of laws now to speed up
The return of funds of every council in the county
Here are just a couple of them /garden bin tax /frack law/ N.H.S. more cuts
And yes our council taxes will go up/and finally your pension they are messing
With now by this I mean your personal pension and your
Government pension you are entitled to.
Ask your M.P. IF this is going on now he will know because he
HAS voted all the changes in to the way this government are now
Cutting all funding what they can get away with and in the long run
We all out here will pay for their 2015 ELECTION BY THIS I MEAN
THE CONSERVATIVES AND THE LIB DEM PARTY
THEM IN POWER NOW so we should be very vigilant
And keep an eye on our local M.P.
I WILL BE HERE IN COLNE.

Free tip. Whatever you do, DON'T do what Burnley Council are recommending you do in this article. DON'T ask the Valuation Office to revalue your home or business property WITHOUT discussing it with someone who understands fully how they work. I made the mistake of asking for a revaluation when I noticed that I was being charged based on faulty boundaries. I was paying for part of next door. My mistake was to ask for the revaluation just after doing up the previously dilapidated property. Their comments were basically, "Ah, this is very nice. Last time we valued it it was run down. It's worth a pretty penny now." And the per-metre valuation went up 33%. It ended up costing me money and strongly discouraging me from doing up any other property.

I have no idea about this firm that is cold-calling, but if they're offering to do it, say, for a share of the savings, on a no-saving, no-fee basis, that would be good value in my opinion.
