Some services were diverted down the daisy hill / atherton line line is what it should say. I think this shows why the Daisy Hill line can't be a metro link.

I wonder what they will do if this happens again and the Bolton line is electrified and the daisy hill / atherton line isn't? Rail replacement buses perhaps?

Reverse twice to get from Wigan Wallgate in to Wigan North Western then follow the route via Newton Li Willows to Manchester.

All the trains via Preston trains missed Chorley and Bolton and went direct via Wigan North Western and then either new electric route to Manchester or via the Wigan NW loop to follow the stopper route via Daisy Hill. The Wigan stoppers went via the Daisy Hill line, whilst Blackburn services started/terminated at Bolton. In fact it was only the Blackburn services that was still running to/from Bolton during the "incident."

Lets not forget that when electrification takes place it will only be the Preston services that will be electric so they can be easily diverted via Wigan (via the NLW curve) the Southport, and Blackburn trains will still be diesel (aka 4 out of 7 trains an hour!)
