SCHOOLGIRL Rachel Hogg enjoyed a taste of success after designing the perfect cake to raise awareness of fostering in Bolton.

The year six St William of York RC Primary School pupil was the “Bake the Difference” winner in a competition organised by Bolton-based Fostering Solutions.

Pupils at the primary school in Great Lever were tasked with designing a cake to show support for fostering in the area.

Local people were asked to judge their favourite and the winner was transformed into a cake by Greenhalgh’s Bakery.

Headteacher Gerardine Babb said: “Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed working together to produce some fantastic creations, while learning some valuable information about the importance of fostering.”

John Keane, director of operations at Fostering Solutions, said: “It’s really important that children have an understanding of what fostering is, and that every child deserves a safe, loving family unit.

“Over 500 children in the Bolton area are currently looked after by the local authority, and many of these would greatly benefit from the love and security of a foster family so it really is a community effort to make sure each one has the childhood they deserve.”

Sandra Ogden, head of retail and marketing operations at Greenhalgh’s, added: “It’s fantastic to be able to help raise awareness for a fantastic cause. We really enjoyed bringing the winning masterpiece to life.”
