The Horse Rangers Association has been given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services.
The association, based at Royal Mews, East Molesey, was one of 13 groups in London to selected for the award, which recognises excellence in volunteering.
The charity, founded in 1954, was nominated by people who have been helped personally or seen the benefits its work.
It was chosen because all workers are volunteers and they encourage members to share what they have learned by mentoring younger children.
Geoffrey Godbold, director of the Horse Rangers Association, said: “This distinction is a credit to our 200-plus volunteers who devote their time with enormous dedication. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary this year it’s the highest reward for them and our organisation.”
Sir Ken Knight, representative deputy lieutenant for Richmond, will present an English crystal glass bowl and certificate signed by the Queen at the charity’s annual award day on June 29 at the Stockyard, Bushy Park.
