Chorley man Chris Watkinson has been announced as winner of the Charity Hero prize at Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friendly Awards.

Chris, who is a manager at Lloyds Banking Group and works in London, was chosen as winner for the new and innovative ways he raised awareness of dementia and funds in support of Alzheimer’s Society.

This included ‘Tea and Talk’, dementia awareness events which took place all over the country during the summer and at Christmas of 2013. Chris also came up with the idea to create a Lloyds Orchestra, organising the recording of a CD of festive carols, available in branches across the country for a donation during the festive period.

The CD also featured special guests appearances from people living with dementia, carers and volunteers from Alzheimer’s Society.

Fundraising for his initiatives has raised £250,000 for Alzheimer’s Society in total to date.
