A FORMER forensic science laboratory and office near Chorley is up for auction today with a £400,000 asking price.

The premises were once used to help solve some of the most high-profile crime cases in the country.

It closed in 2011 with forensic services transferred primarily to the private sector.

The laboratories previously employed more than 200 people, including forensic scientists, managers and computer staff.

The complex, on Washington Lane comprises 38,000 sq ft, on a site of around 3.2 acres.

The guide price is £400,000 and it is among the lots being offered at the Eddisons auction in Manchester.

The site neighbours the Lancashire fire service training centre and new fire station.
