Blank holiday for Chorley CC

This Is Lancashire: Blank holiday for Chorley CC Blank holiday for Chorley CC

A bizarre and possibly unprecedented series of events led to both Chorley’s first and second teams being without a game on Bank Holiday Monday.

During the morning, with Windsor Park all set for the second XI’s home league fixture against Lancaster seconds, the club were advised by the visitors that they were unable to raise a full team.

This meant the match was conceded with Chorley seconds being awarded the 15 points.

Then shortly afterwards, the 1st XI arrived at Lancaster’s Lune Road for their own fixture only to find the wicket had been deemed dangerous and unfit for play by the umpires.

At this stage, the fixture has been classed as a ‘void game’ which means each team are awarded four points.

However, the umpires will forward a report to the league, and Chorley CC will submit a detailed report to the League Executive outlining the club’s total dissatisfaction with the whole issue of a wasted cricket day.

The scenario which unfolded prevented the club from building on Saturday’s success by Chorley who pulled off a stunning home win over Blackpool.

After a steady start by openers David Fisher and Andy Winrow, we lost a flurry of wickets after fine bowling spells by visiting professional Christi Viljoen and Steven Mercer.

And it took a battling 46 from player-coach Gaurav Dhar to see us battle to a final total of 154 for 9.

Blackpool started briskly in reply, but once Richard Gleeson fell for 28, they collapsed, slipping from 60 for 2 to 67 all out as Billy Smith ran riot.

Last year’s player of the season finished with a superb seven for 26 and the recalled Chris Harty chipped in with two wickets as we bagged a 15 point win.

Next weekend, we have a double header as Chorley host St Annes in a league game on Saturday then travel to Blackpool for a National Knockout second round tie on Sunday.
