AN appeal has been launched for volunteers ahead of the opening of Bury Cancer Support Centre’s new base.

Contracts are set to be exchanged to enable an anonymous businessman to purchase Abbeyfield House in Bolton Road and rent the building to Bury Cancer Support Centre under a 10-year tenancy agreement.

Bury Council has now approved a change of use application for the building.

Leaders of the Centre say the new home will be double the size of its existing base at St James Avenue and will enable manager Jan Katana and her staff to expand and enhance the services they offer.

Mrs Katana has issued an appeal for people to help in the run-up to the transfer.

“As we move closer to the exchange of contracts, we are looking for volunteers to help with gardening, decorating, cleaning and other tasks,” she said.

Anyone who can help the Centre can call Jan Katana on 07899 990260.

n Staff at textile company Milliken Industrials in Wellington Street have presented the Centre with a cheque for £1,000, as well as donating a new carpet for the new building.
