BURNLEY College has been given the go-ahead to expand its Princess Way campus.

The £81m site now has permission to re-house its brickwork and plastering workshop in a purpose-built construction skills centre, and erect a new teaching block.

College director Colin Crowther put the application in in February and it was given the green light by Burnley Council last week. Bosses said the development would provide ‘a high-quality learning environment for all students and members of the community’.

The teaching block will be designed to allow three more floors built in the future.

Planning officer Graeme Thorpe said: “Use of the site for another separate purpose has the potential to cause conflict with the existing surrounding uses, and would be a logical space for the college to expand.”
