THEY went in hula hula skirts, a stretch Hummer and as Father Christmas for the Claret end-of-season party in Reading.

There was a family of Smurfs, a Batman and lots of balloons among the sea of claret and blue, as well.

In the stands all manner of inflatables flew overhead, beach balls, blue dolphins - and was that a pink flamingo?

Burnley fans arrived at the Madejski Stadium all aboard the party bus, not so much as to watch a football match, but to celebrate a season of superlatives.

A season like no other, one which brought automatic promotion, thanks to 93 points, just five losses and a measly 37 goals conceded.

The fans took their voices to Berkshire, too, as they wished a happy farewell to the Championship - including the opposing fans as it turned out in the end - and hello Premier League.

Did it matter if Trippier scored the Royals first goal for them - not a jot - was there a problem it was only one point, rather than all three - not at all - because 'The Clarets are going up.'

And in party mode they kept up the deafening chanting and clapping for 90 plus minutes, even at one point stealing Reading's own goal celebration song.

It was the last day of a momentous nine months and no-one wanted it to end, so at the final whistle they simply took the celebrations out on to the street.

There, around 100 supporters turned flashmob, putting on an impromptu display of what has quickly become a cult anthem to leading strikers Sam Vokes and Danny Ings.

The rendition of "Vokesy Vokesy, Danny Danny", put a smile on the faces of watching stewards and police officers and even some thwarted passing Royals.

They held up the coaches, they held up the sparkling stretch Hummer, hired for the occasion by lads from Burnley's Tim Bobbin pub and last seen disappearing down the road, with a Clarets' flag trailing from its rear bumper and its happy occupants singing about moving up the football league.

As gradually the celebrations moved on, was that light aircraft flying over the stadium really doing victory rolls for Burnley FC?
