TALENTED youngsters proved themselves “quick on the draw” by having their artistic efforts displayed at an exhibition.

All 220 pupils of Unsworth Primary School had their work featured during a still life drawing display which took place at an empty unit at the Mill Gate shopping centre in Bury.

The event was the culmination of a two-week project which started with the children at the Blackley Close school being asked if they could be a still life artist. Later, seven members of the Bury Art Society visited the school to demonstrate their artistic prowess and to help the pupils create their own drawings.

Deputy headteacher Mr Andrew Rhodes said that each of the classes followed individual themes in terms of the subject matter of their drawings.

“These included mini-beats, their own favourite objects, fruit, chocolate bars, tea cups and packets of crisps and flowers. Parents were then asked to donate any unused or unwanted frames and we also used a few of our own.

“The artwork was created using a range of mediums including charcoal, pastels and watercolours and each class used a different medium,” added Mr Rhodes.

Visitors to the exhibition left behind positive comments in a quote book. And on the day, a raffle raised £305 for Bury Hospice.
