A NURSE escorting a convicted paedophile on a day trip allowed him near a young child while she smoked outside Starbucks, a tribunal heard.

Adele Mauback was returning to the ward with the dangerous patient and a healthcare assistant when they stopped at the cafe.

Despite knowing the risks, she sat near a small child, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.

She then cleaned a Starbucks mug with tissues and allowed him to steal it before they made their way back to psychiatric hospital Kemple View, Lango, Blackburn.

Monwara Shah, for the NMC, said the charges relate to an incident on July 1, 2011, and occurred whilst the registrant was employed by Partnership in Care.

She said: “The charges relate to a patient who was held at the Kenton Ward at Kemple View. This is a ward for patients with a history of sexual offending and Patient A had a historical risk of sexual offences towards young children.

“A visit was authorised for Patient A and the registrant escorted Patient A on that visit.

MORE TOP STORIES:

“The registrant stopped at a Starbucks on the return journey back to the ward and Patient A went to the toilet and the registrant was seated outside smoking and seated near a family with a young child. Patient A and a health care assistant, after their visit to the toilet, came over to where the registrant was seated. It is the NMC's case that the registrant was aware of Patient A's risk associated with young children and she remained seated there.

“It is also the NMC's case that she did not remain with Patient A at all times and she was part of his escort,” continued Ms Shah.

Mauback also faces allegations that she lied while applying for a job with Calderstones Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. She allegedly concealed her dismissal for misconduct and said she left Partnerships in Care because she had been bullied, the tribunal heard.

The nurse, who is not present at the tribunal in central London but has sent a representative on her behalf, admits concealing her dismissal but denies this was dishonest.

She further admits that she did not remain with Patient A at all times, that she did not challenge him when he pinched the cup and that she failed to report and record the incident.

But she denies inappropriately allowing the patient near a young child and accepting the Starbucks cup from him.

She also denies her fitness to practise is impaired.

If the panel find her guilty of misconduct, Mauback could face a period of suspension or being struck off the register.

The hearing continues.

If the "dangerous patient" simply sitting near family with young children is risky then surely he should not be allowed out "on a day trip".

How can they address her as a nurse when she isn't worthy to bear the credentials !!!!!!!!! A friend of mine and their family unknowingly sat next to Robert Thompson and his rehabilitation carer many years ago at Prestwich TGI Fridays. It only came to light after another customer informed them in the carpark after they leaving. The stuff that goes on in this shameless country !!!!!!!

This nurse comes across as winging It and having no sense of self responsibility at all especially In this role as RMN. Apart from being to laid back around the Starbucks situation knowing this patients history, she also allows him to steal the coffee mug, which Is not exactly the crime of the century, but never recorded the Incident when she got back! She also lied to get the job saying she was bullied at her previous one, but some responsibility should be with Kemple View for not doing appropriate background checks. If this was a one off Incident regarding this nurse, then we all make mistakes, therefore a warning would suffice, but It seems she has lost motivation, Inspiration, and the capacity to be honest by trying to cover her tracks by not reporting Incidents and lying on her applications. Personally, It's easy to judge someone we don't know but maybe she should take some time out and re- evaluate where she Is In life regardless of the outcome from the hearing, because her behaviour Is totally unacceptable as It stands. Something In my gut says Kemple View Is not totally Lilly white here neither, but maybe that Is just another private company cutting corners for their own needs. Would be Interesting to know If they offer their staff supervision and support.

I am employed at Kemple View and it is a very decent company to work for. they offer staff regular supervision and all necessary checks are carried out before any employee is taken on board and allowed to work with any patients. As for Calderstones that is another matter, however if she has lied to them surely a phonecall to the HR department at Kemple View would have clarified matters?

Just another example of the absurd paranoia concerning paedophiles. Although he's no doubt a deeply unpleasant person how could there have been any realistic risk of his committing - or even attempting to commit - an offence against a child that's seated with its family?

Utterly ludicrous, and if the tribunal have any sense they will dismiss the allegation with the contempt it deserves.

Paedophile's are released from prison and rehomed without so much as a thought for the children or their families living on the same street. No one gives a toss what they do until another child is harmed. Time this country quit being a soft touch and lock them up properly, same goes for child killers - without release for a day out! It's a joke, they harp on about child protection yet the government does precious little about these creatures being released back into society to reoffend

ahahahahahaha it is the most stressful, bullying, oppressive, self-centred, corner-cutting, greedy, psychopathic lying organisation I ever had the misfortune to represent. The nurse's behaviour in this incident is wholly symptomatic of the uncaring, blame-oriented cuture of fear which thrives throughout the establishment.
