A RIBBLE Valley disabled access group is set to be relaunched.

Open Doors, which was established almost a decade ago, is appealing for new members and is set to change its name.

The Clitheroe-based group aims to raise awareness of disabled access issues in the area with officers representing their members at meetings with local councillors.

Former group leader Simon O’Rourke has said it wanted to relaunch after plans to redevelop Clitheroe town centre and the historic market were announced recently.

Lancashire County Council is working alongside the borough and town councils to develop plans to regenerate the town centre and plans to redevelop the market are set to be unveiled in June.

Simon, a wheelchair user himself, said: “The group are looking to relaunch ahead of the town being transformed in the near future.

“We want to be party to discussions to change the centre because any alterations could impact on disabled access. We often get overlooked when these plans are being drawn up.

“Having more members in the group would strengthen us and enable us to better represent the community.”

The next meeting will be held on June 5. Call Simon on 01200 444193 for details.
