A TEAM of ‘Vintage Clarets’ took on a select XI from Haslingden St Mary’s in a celebratory match.
Yesterday’s game was won 4-2 by St Mary’s, who took the Sturridge Cup. Sam Dean, awarded man of the match for St Mary’s, scored a hat-trick, with Danny Wade adding another. Former Burnley forward Ade Akinbiyi and George Oghani scored for the visitors, while defender Frank Sinclair was declared their man of the match. The game was played at South Shore Street in front of 500 spectators.
Proceeds will go to Haslingden St Mary’s and selected charities including Rossendale Hospice.
Organiser Gary Rishton said: “There were a lot of people watching and it was a good family day. It could be something we do each year.”
