This Is Lancashire: Boy rescued from Burnley canal Boy rescued from Burnley canal

AN 11-year-old boy has died after falling into a canal in Burnley.

Police were called by the Fire Service at 7pm on Tuesday after a report of a boy falling in the canal at Lowerhouse Lane, Burnley.

Robbie Williamson, a Year 7 pupil at Shuttleworth College in Padiham, had been crossing the canal bridge, walking across a pipe where he has lost his balance and fell into the water.

A passer-by jumped into the water and pulled him out. He was given CPR until the emergency services arrived.

The boy was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he sadly later died.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The article does not say that he was without parental supervision. Perhaps it was his parents who rescued him. We don't know exactly what was the cause of his death either. He may have had too much water in his lungs, he may have been unconscious as he fell. It's unfair to speculate and lay blame when this report is scarce of information.

Why try to blame the council? its not their responsibility, its whoever is in charge of the waterways or uses the pipe!
.
The poor lad died doing what many of us did at his age - having an adventure and trying something a bit risky. RIP

It's always a bitter shame when a young life is lost without filling it's full potential, how his parents are coping is just unthinkable.
