MORE people are travelling on Metrolink’s Bury line since two new stations opened.
Last month, 17,422 tickets were purchased to or from the Queens Road and Abraham Moss stops, compared to the 9,840 tickets bought to or from the former Woodlands Road stop in March 2011.
The Queens Road stop, opened to passengers last December, has now been officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Naeem Ul Hassan.
The Woodlands Road stop shut in December after a Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) assessment concluded it was one of the least used and had poor local access.
Chairman of the TfGM committee, Cllr Andrew Fender, said: “The increase in passengers last month is testament to the improved environment provided by the stop, which is fully accessible, well lit and covered by CCTV.
"We are confident that, following the opening of the Queens Road stop and the Abraham Moss stop, more people are now benefiting from stops being located closer to where they live and alongside key services and community facilities.”
