Special discount for Blackburn 'Lynx effect' thief

This Is Lancashire: Special discount for 'Lynx effect' thief Special discount for 'Lynx effect' thief

POLICE reduced the value of the charge after hearing deodorant stolen from a convenience store was on special offer.

But there was no discount for serial shoplifter Andrew Wilde who was jailed for 60 days.

Wilde, 31, of Rawstorne Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing 22 cans of Lynx from the One Stop Shop, New Bank Road.

Alex Mann, prosecuting, said the original charge had been for £78 but because the deodorants were on special offer it had been brought down to £58.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client knew the aggravating feature was his previous record. He had eight convictions for similar offences in 2013 and already had convictions in 2014 which had resulted in a custodial sentence.

Mr Price said: “Drugs are behind his offending.”

I can't see what the fuss is about, you can only be charged to the value to the goods stolen so if they were worth 58 quid then the charge has been amended to 58 quid! What is the point in highlighting it?

Just another pathetic attempt by the LT to stir up some cop bashing.

The CPS reduced the charge not the police, it even says so.in the article.
Do the LT bother to read what they put out there before they do it?

Jailed for 60 days for theft of £58 worth of goods. That roughly equates to one day per £ value! That's pretty good going for a local magistrate these days. Other magistrates take note.
