BOLTON FM presenter Matthew Davidge is having a break from the airwaves after his charity sleepathon at Asda.

The Saturday afternoon DJ spent six days sleeping at the Horwich superstore in Middlebrook Retail Park helping to raise £1,420 for Bolton Hospice and Asda charity Tickled Pink, in what was the biggest fundraiser that the community station has ever done.

The sleepathon, Matthew slept in a purpose-built sleeping area complete with an 18ft king size bed in the very public setting of Asda’s shop window.

He was visited by a host of celebrities, including Dave Spikey, Shameless’s Alice Barry, Former Corrie actor Bruce Jones, and Crackerjack legend Stu Francis.

The presenter, who volunteers his time for the station, was given last weekend off due to his efforts, and this weekend’s Easter schedule means he will not be back on until April 26.

The station’s business development manager Keith Harris said: “All the presenters are volunteers at Bolton FM.

"He hasn’t been taken off air, we are giving him a well earned break after the sleepathon.

“He did a fantastic job that week and worked really hard to raise money for two fantastic charities, so we told him to take last weekend off to recover, and this weekend we have the Easter schedule which is different to our usual programming.

“I imagine that Matthew will be back on air the week after.”
