A CLIMBER was rescued by Bolton Mountain Rescue Team after falling while out bouldering.

The volunteers were called out at by the North West Ambulance Service after a 38-year-old man reportedly broke his leg.

The incident happened at Brownstones Quarry, next to Colliers Row Road, Smithills, at about 8.10pm on Monday.

The man, from Eccles, had fallen while at a relatively low height but suffered a serious injury.

Volunteers carried him on a stretcher with help from the ambulance hazard area response team, who provided lighting.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Royal Bolton Hospital.
