DARWEN Library launches an exhibition with a difference this week with a display of old photos from Darwen Days’ local history collection.

And there is the added interest of a competition. A dozen of the photos ask Where? When? What? or Which? And one, an old photo of long-demolished Astley Street, off Bolton Road, poses the toughest of all the questions.

In the mid-distance a postman goes about his daily chores and visitors are asked if they can name him.

Darwen Days founder Dave Owen said: “I am looking forward to it. We had hoped to show some of our photos in the exhibition room by the entrance, but it is booked solid.

“A display in the heart of the library will be even better. There are a couple of really tough questions and I can’t see anyone getting them all.”

n The display has been arranged by the Friends of Darwen Library and will run until mid-May when a collection of early James Hargreaves Morton drawings, owned by former Darwen Grammar School student Les Robinson and his wife Kath, will go on show.
