WORK is to get under way next week to create a new toilet block at Bury Market.
The facility, which is being constructed by Whitefield-based HH Smith & Sons, should be completed in around 14 weeks, and is built alongside the subway, next to Edward block.
Bury Council leader Cllr Mike Connolly said: “As part of ongoing customer satisfaction surveys, we regularly ask visitors to the market what improvements they would like to see.
“Residents and visitors alike told us they would like more toilets. This new facility adds positively to Bury’s shopping offer and it will be a great asset to our already very successful and popular market.
“Added to this, the investment demonstrates our commitment to local traders by ensuring the facilities on offer are amongst the best in the country.”
Regular dialogue is ongoing with traders, who have welcomed the development.
