STUDENTS at Nelson and Colne College have made shoes from cardboard and gaffa tape that will go on display in London.

The students made footware that in some way reflected their future hopes and ambition, using glitter, beads, feathers and glue to decorate them.

The shoes are to be included in an exhibition at The Old Truman Brewery, in Brick Lane.

The brewery is a revolutionary arts and media quarter, home to a hive of creative businesses, exclusive independent shops, galleries, markets, bars and restaurants.

The students will visit the exhibition in May to see their creations on display.
They were joined for the day by college alumni Amina Malik, who is now at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Susan Hartley, workplace community lecturer, said: “I wanted to organise something that would inspire the girls to realise that there are lots of opportunities for them in this life.”
