BOLTON Golf Club helped raise £600 for a disabled children’s charity by hosting a family fun day.

The aim of the event was to raise funds for a Ben Nevis climb in aid of Children’s Opportunity Group (COG), based at Lowndes Street Nursery, Halliwell.

The proceeds will help fund the climb with the remainder going towards helping COG buy a minibus for day trips.

Visitors were treated to facepainting, a fashion show from Nude Boutique and a performance from youngsters at Theatre Dance Studios in Rossini Street, Halliwell.

Guests had their hair styled by H20 hair salon and were given a makeover by Aura beauty salon, both of Halliwell Road, Halliwell.

The event was organised by Aura owner Emma Hargreaves.

Miss Hargreaves, whose lifelong friend’s mother Nicola McGuiness founded COG, is one of four fundraisers who will trek up Ben Nevis on June 7.

Miss Hargreaves, aged 37, of Over Hulton, said: “Everyone loved it.

“They were all saying what a great day it was.

“It took a lot of hard work and preparation but it went according to plan.

“The climb is sinking in a bit now that we’re closer to it — we are all upping our training regime.”

Miss Hargreaves will climb Ben Nevis with friends Clare Morris, Simon Stone and Keith Laverty.

The group, none of whom have climbed before, aim to raise £3,000 and £4,000.

The next fundraising event for COG will be a DJ night at the Bleachworks bar in Blackburn Road, Dunscar, on April 19.
