TEACHERS at an Accrington school are celebrating after five of its musical proteges were offered places at some of the country’s most prestigious music colleges.

St Christopher’s CE High School, in Queens Road West, said the success of the Upper Sixth Form pupils was unprecedented in Hyndbuurn.

Esther Worrall has been offered the chance to study a classical music degree at Leeds College of Music.

Leeds also offered a place on its pop music degree course to Megan Grooters, who was also granted a £6,000 scholarship, as has William Brown.

Bassoon player Sarah Hoyle will join the Royal Academy of Music in London.

And Luke Marsden has an opportunity to study the guitar at Brighton Institute for Modern Music.

Head of sixth form, Paul Cuff, said: “We are extremely please indeed with our students who have gained places on these prestigious courses. Their success is a great testament to their individual talent, dedication, and the hard work of both the students and the staff who have helped them with their subjects and applications.

“I am sure they will go from strength to strength and will be very successful on their chosen courses and career paths.”

The school’s director of music, Helen Davies, added: “These students have been a delight to teach, real fun and true musical ambassadors for the school. I wish them every success for their future careers.”
