WORK is progressing well on the construction of Burnley’s newest railway station, in Manchester Road.

Construction of the exterior of the main station building is well advanced – and the iconic blue fin is in place on the roof above the Yorkshire-bound platform.

Fixtures and fittings are now being installed inside, before the building, on the site of a former dairy, is handed over later this spring, and the car park is being laid out.

Funding for the work was secured by Burnley Council, in partnership with Network Rail and Northern Rail, as part of an initiative to re-open the 500-yard Todmorden Curve, ensuring faster services to Manchester.
