A NEW exhibition capturing the changing face of the Weavers’ Triangle is set to be opened by the Mayor of Burnley this weekend.

Coun Frank Cant will launch the project at the Weavers’ Triangle Visitor Centre in Manchester Road on Saturday, from 11am.

Work has been carried out by the Local History Group of Burnley U3A, with the assistance of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to bring back to life the shops, hostelries and hotels at the heart of the former cotton-making mecca.

Venues such as ‘The Vic’, Empire and Palace theatres all feature among a wide variety of photographs loaned by Towneley Hall art gallery and museum, before the area was redeveloped in the 1960s.

Drawings by Burnley artist Terry Bates, of local scenes, are also included in the presentation.

The event will kick off the summer season for the visitor centre, based in the old toll house, which opens from Saturdays to Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm and is run entirely by volunteers without regular public funding.
