TWO East Lancashire men were sentenced to a combined prison term of almost 10 years for drug trafficking.

Habib Subanie, of Townley Street, and Munir Hussain, of King Street, Brierfield were sent to jail yesterday when they appeared at Burnley Crown Court.

Both pleaded guilty on November 21 to being concerned in the supply of heroin worth around £20,000.

Subanie, 26, was found in possession of around £2,000 worth of heroin and a search of his home discovered a larger quantity with a street value of £18,000.

Hussain, 25, admitted bagging up the drugs at Towneley Street for distribution in order to feed his own drug addiction.

He was sentenced to four years and one month in prison while Subanie - who controlled the premises - was sentenced to five years and two months. The pair were arrested as part of Operation Fingal which targeted an organised drug distribution network operating in and around Brierfield between December 2005 and January 2006.

Detective Sergeant Ian Whitehead said: "Both men played an integral part in a large scale drug distribution network.

"These sentences reflect the serious view that the courts will take on this level of criminality. Lancashire Constabulary is committed to targeting criminals committing these types of offences and will react to information received from members of the public.

"I would urge anybody who has suspicions regarding drug dealing activities to contact Burnley Police Station on 01282 425001 or to call Crimestoppers anony-mously on 0800 555 111."
