DETECTIVES investigating a robbery at a convenience store have released a CCTV image of the suspect.

At around 10am on Sunday, a man walked into Topping Fold Convenience Store in Topping Fold Road, Bury, and threatened the shop assistant with a knife.

He went into the store and waited at the counter.

When the shop assistant appeared he raised his arms to show he had a large kitchen knife in one hand and a small black rucksack in the other.

He then pointed the knife at the victim and said: "Put the money in the bag and you won't get hurt."

The shop assistant raised the alarm and contacted the police and the offender ran from the shop, in the direction of Bridgefield Drive.

The offender is described as white, wearing a black trousers and a dark jacket with the hood up.

Detective Constable Alison Kay from Bury division said: "This man pretended to be a customer and threatened the shop assistant with a large knife in broad daylight.

"The shop assistant was not harmed but has been traumatised by the offence.

"We have released a CCTV image of the suspect and I would ask anyone who recognises him to contact police."
