UNWANTED Christmas gifts are being collected by a fundraising group so that they can be converted into cash to help fight cancer.

The Rishton-based Christie's Grafters group raises money for The Christie Hospital, Manchester - one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe - and hopes to use people's unloved Christmas jumpers, surplus smellies and excess household trinkets as stock for charity car boot sales and raffles.

Alan Wilkinson, of Christie's Grafters, said: "Donations of items you have received but won't use can generate much needed funds to benefit patients in their fight against cancer.

"Please don't put that perfume on the top shelf in the bathroom, or the food mixer at the back of the pantry cupboard, knowing it will never see the light of day again.

"Remember that present wasn't just for Christmas, it could save a life."

Donations can be left at local safe stores or collected by members of the Grafters.
