The 29-year-old man was walking along Walmersley Road near to the junction of Monmouth Avenue - opposite the park - on Friday around midday when we was struck.

The impact sent him flying and he landed on his head a short distance away.

He blacked out and when he came round he was told by members of the public that he had been hit by a 4x4, possibly a Toyota, which had driven off down Walmersley Road towards Bury.

The man declined an ambulance but later went to hospital after starting to feel unwell and was treated for a skull fracture.

Detective Constable Alison Kay, said: “At this moment in time we are going off what this man has been told.

“In order to help us piece together what happened we need to speak to the two people who offered this man assistance and possibly witnessed what occurred.

“I would therefore urge them or anyone else with information to come forward.”
