A MAN who smashed a bottle over another man's head and also left a bouncer injured has been jailed for nine months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Jack Robinson, 21, attacked victim Jason McKenzie because he believed he had assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

Doorman Shaun Robinson suffered a cut hand as he tried to block the blow.

Robinson, of Austin Street, Burnley, admitted common assault and assault causing actual bodily harm, last September.

Francis McEntee, prosecuting, told the court Mr McKenzie had had had three bottles of lager, four bottles of WKD and two ecstasy tablets. He was in a confrontation with a woman named Nicola Dixon, who was the girlfriend or former girlfriend of the defendant.

Doorman Shane Robinson was standing outside Isobar a little after midnight when he was aware of someone next to him. That turned out to be Mr McKenzie and a man then ran across the road with an alcopop bottle in his hand and brought it down with great force on the head of Mr McKenzie.

Mr McEntee said Shane Robinson managed to put his left hand out to block the blow and suffered a cut to his left index finger. The bottle smashed on impact on Mr McKenzie's head and Mr Robinson restrained the defendant, pinning him against a taxi, until police arrived.

Mr McKenzie suffered three cuts to his face, two of which were bleeding heavily, and went to hospital. He left before receiving any treatment but returned at 8am, four hours later, complaining of headache and feeling unwell. The cuts to his face were cleaned.
