THERE’S something a bit surreal going on at Darwen Library.

Peter Harris, a retired high school teacher, is hosting his first solo exhibition of his work.

Mr Harris, 63, of Blackburn, said although he doesn’t consider himself an artist, he has decided to show pieces he has created over the past 30 years.

He said: “The exhibition is in two parts. The first part is a series of photographed collages.

“The second is my work with boxes, which I turn into collages using things I find while out walking, such as bits of twigs and animal bones.”

Mr Harris said he uses his art to illustrate key issues such as life, death and alienation.

His passion for surrealist art came when he became a political activist in London and met others who used their art to highlight issues in an effort to change society.
