Puppy trapped under car freed by fire crews

PART of Worsley Road in Farnworth was closed as firefighters fought to free a seven-month-old puppy trapped underneath a car.

The puppy, named Jake, broke free from its lead while being taken for a walk and ran into the path on an on-coming car.

It became trapped underneath just before 9pm on Saturday near Worsley Road North.

John Duffin, crew commander at Farnworth Fire Station, said: "He became trapped in some plastic material under the car. The police closed off the road while we freed him. He was very frightened and kept biting his owner's finger."

Crews were at the scene for 40 minutes. The dog suffered an injured leg and was taken to the vet.
