A BUSINESSMAN who has used his birth sign as the name for his newly opened fish and chip shop hopes that it’s an omen of good fortune.

Darren Sudlow has invested £80,000 in the launch of Aquarius which now stands opposite the Vue Cinema on The Rock.

The premises were previously occupied by the movie-themed cafe Hollywood Bites, which had been vacant for more than a year.

The 43-year-old welcomed the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Sharon Briggs, for a fish and chip lunch when she officially opened the new takeaway and restaurant which can seat 30 diners, and employs seven staff.

Previously, Mr Sudlow was a carpenter-joiner for 22 years and ran his own building company. But he eventually decided he had other “fish to fry” and embarked on a career change.

“I decided to down tools and wrap up the company and opened a fish and chip shop in Warrington seven years ago,” he said.

“It was just a business opportunity I had seen near to where I was living as there was no chip shop for around a mile and a half.

“My takeaway is called the Plaice Station and it’s being run by my two sons, Josh and Kieran.

“I have always enjoyed cooking and wanted a takeaway and The Rock is exactly the location I’d been looking for.

“Bury seems to be a very up-and-coming place and The Rock shopping centre is very impressive.”
