COMMUTERS are facing dense fog this morning as a Met Office "severe" weather warning was issued for the north west.
Traffic slowed on the majority of Bolton's motorway links as the fog, which arrived late last night, reduced visibility to as little as 100 metres in places.
The M6 and M62 are the motorways worst-affected, but the warnings also apply to the M602, M60 and M61.
Fog impairing visibility is now causing delays on the M61 northbound between junction 6 at Horwich and junction 8 at Chorley.
Drivers travelling between junction 6 at Sale and junction 17 at Prestwich on the M60 are also urged to take extra care.
Flights have also been cancelled at Manchester Airport.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Dense fog patches on Thursday morning will be slow to clear, with visibility below 100 metres in places.
"The public should be aware of the potential for some difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel, particularly during the morning rush hour.”
