LEARNING new songs and performing them in front of an audience was all in a day’s work for hundreds of Bolton schoolchildren.
The Bolton Schools’ Music Association’s annual charity sing day saw more than 200 children from 12 schools at the Victoria Hall on Saturday to learn a selection of songs to perform that evening.
Chairman Patricia Hughes said: “I don’t know they do it, I certainly couldn’t manage it.”
The children belted out renditions of Make Friends Around the World, Playing on the Beach, and When I First Came to this Land.
Guest performers included the Rivington and Blackrod Djembe group, Bolton Junior Youth Choir and Bolton teenagers Sam Cain and Katy Clayton, who sang numbers from Les Miserables and Carousel.
The concert also raised funds for the charity, Special Needs Under Fives Support, which promotes the inclusion of young children with special educational needs into mainstream pre-school provision in Bolton.
Mrs Hughes added: “It is all about promoting singing, and helping the children to learn new songs. With more than 200 children here, you can see singing is on the up in Bolton.”
Among the primary schools taking part were: Highfield, Mytham, Prestolee, SS Simon and Jude, St Matthew’s, Blackrod, St Columba’s, St John’s, St Mary’s, St Michael’s and Walmsley.
