ONE lane of the M61 was closed after crash on the motorway this afternoon.

A Toyota Corolla and a lorry crashed into each other on the northbound carriageway between junction 5 near Farnworth and junction 6 near Westhoughton at about 2.30pm.

The car, which was forced onto the grass at the side of the motorway, will need to be recovered from the scene, but the lorry driver managed to drive his vehicle away.

No-one was hurt in the crash, and motorists faced minor delays until the road was reopened at 3pm.

"....on the northbound carriageway between junction 5 near Farnworth and junction 6 near Westhoughton at about 2.30pm." And this from a reporter on our supposedly 'local' paper. If they can't get basic facts like this right, how can you trust anything else they write and publish? The reporters on this paper get more and more amateurish with each passing day.....

Even J4 isn't Farnworth, though the police and Highways Agency often refer to it as such. Farnworth is J3; J4 is Middle Hulton, within the old Bolton county borough boundary.
