THE Bishop of Blackburn has backed a new ‘prayer app’ designed to enable people to pray with the aid of their smartphones and tablets.

The Rt Rev Julian Henderson is supporting the initiative by the Church of England called ‘Daily Prayer’, which gives people the ability to follow the daily pattern of morning, evening and night prayer in the words of the Anglican liturgy.

Using text from both Common Worship and the Book of Common Prayer, the app provides a platform for accessing the Church of England’s Daily Prayer website.

The app offers text for every day of the year, with the ability to select between traditional, and contemporary, language.

Bishop Julian, said: “With this prayer app people everywhere, from a commuter travelling to work to a housewife taking a break from a busy day at home, can have a few moments of quiet reflection. I wholeheartedly support it, and I am already using it myself.”

The app is free to download and will be launched around Easter.
