THE Commonwealth flag will fly from Nelson Town Hall on Monday.
Local authorities throughout the country have been invited to take part in the ‘Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth’ initiative to mark Commonwealth Day.
The navy blue and yellow flag will be raised in the presence of the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Smith Benson, at 10am and will be flown all day.
The chair of St John Southworth School Council will hand over the flag to the mayor who will then read out the Commonwealth Affirmation. This will take place inside the town hall. Guests will then meet outside the town hall at the viewing point near Number One Market Street.
The public are invited to gather outside the front of the town hall shortly before 10am to see the raising of the flag.
