BLACKBURN Is Open launches its First Thursday series of monthly events tomorrow.

‘First Thursdays’ will see venues throughout the town centre including Blakey’s, Blackburn Museum and the pop-up arts centre taking part.

Launching tomorrow , the first event will include a screening of the Tony Wilson biopic, 24 Hour Party People by Blackburn-born director Michael Winterbottom, at the pop-up cinema from 7.30pm.

There will also be a chance to head over to Blakey’s to watch bands battle it out in the latest heat of the Reidy’s talent competition from 6.30pm, a ‘Fashion House’ market at the King William Street pop up arts centre from 4pm to 8pm, and fans of local taxidermist Nicola Hebson will be able to see her new Curiosity Shop for the first time.

First Thursdays are the latest step for the Blackburn is Open scheme.

Executive member for Regeneration at Blackburn with Darwen Council, Coun Maureen Bateson, said: “Since launching Blackburn Is Open we’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm for this project and the willingness by people to get involved has shown us that this is the right path for us.”
