SPRING has sprung early at Smithills Open Farm after Sally the donkey gave a birth to an adorable little foal.
The new-born grey is yet to have a name, but the sprightly youngster has already caused a stir among visitors.
Sally had been expecting for almost 12 months and last Wednesday, at 11pm, she gave birth.
Farm manager Carl Grimshaw said: “We’ve already got some baby piglets and goats, but having a newborn foal is pretty special.
“He’s very confident for a donkey and was soon bounding about in the straw.”
The farm now has 15 donkeys, with another two foals on the way.
Staff will now hold a competition to name Sally’s foal.
