TOWER FM’s new presenter Simon Morykin is looking forward to being back on home turf as he prepared to take over the breakfast show this morning.

Harwood-born Simon, who lives in Tonge Moor, will be on air weekdays from 6am at the Bolton and Bury station launching his new ‘Morykin in the Morning’ show.

He has moved to Tower from sister station Signal 1 in Stoke, which broadcasts across Cheshire and Staffordshire, presenting Total Access.

He takes over from long-standing duo Jon and Vix — who left last week without any announcement, leaving listeners baffled at their sudden departure.

It prompted many of their fans to post messages of shock and disappointment on the station’s Facebook page.

Simon said: “I know some listeners won’t like the change to start with — that is natural.

“Look at what happened when Terry Wogan left Radio 2 and everyone was in uproar.
Then Chris Evans went and overtook him in the listening figures.

“People get used to the change over time, and hopefully Bolton and Bury listeners will with me. I know Jon and Vix well and know that they will do brilliantly with whatever they do in the future.”

Simon added: “After six years working the night shift and driving to and from Stoke, it’s going to be a bit of a shock to the system to be getting up at 4am in time for the breakfast show, but I can’t wait.

“Breakfast is where you want to be as a radio presenter, and to do it in your home town talking about your memories and experiences with other locals, it can’t get much better than that.”
