POLICE are appealing for information after two attempted burglaries at newsagents in Clitheroe earlier this month.

Both took place overnight between the 14th and the 15th February.

The first was at a newsagents on Whalley Road where the offenders have tried to smash the front door window and on being unsuccessful have then tried the same at a side door but have also failed. They have then left the scene.

The second happened, again overnight between 14th and 15th, this time at a newsagents on Henthorn Road.

On this occasion, the offenders smashed a side window but this was blocked from the inside by refrigerators and so they were unable to gain entry.

They have then forced open a wooden door but it is thought that on doing this and being spotted by neighbours, that they have then left before entering the shop.

Officers investigating these two offences believe that they are linked due to the timeframe and that they were most likely were committed by the same offenders.

PC Sally Biggar who is investigating said, “If anyone noticed any suspicious activity in the area overnight between the 14th and 15th of February then I would urge them to contact us by calling 101.”

The same officers are also investigating four break ins at a caravan park which they are seeking information about.

Three out of the four caravans were broken into overnight between the 12th and 13th of February on the Three Rivers Caravan Park on Eaves Hall Lane West in West Bradford. On these occasions, windows were forced open and a small amount of loose change was stolen from two of the caravans, nothing was stolen from the third.

The fourth was broken into at some time between the 9th and the 14th of February and on this occasion several items of costume jewellery were stolen worth over £200.

PC Biggar continued, "Although we do not believe the offences are linked to the newsagents shops they have happened over a similar time period and so we have increased patrols in both areas. If anyone has any information about any suspicious activity in either of the areas then I would urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact Lancashire Police by calling 101 or alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
